Vitamin A, long recognized as one of the core fat-soluble vitamins needed for human health, is actually a group of compounds collectively known as retinoids. The physiological role of these retinoids has proven to be vast, ranging from embryonic development to adult growth and development.

One of the most well-known functions of vitamin A surrounds its role in eye health. Through its ability to increase rhodopsin production, vitamin A can improve night blindness and it is associated with a reduced risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. In addition, vitamin A supplementation has been found to slow down the declining retinal function in retinitis pigmentosa. Clearly, adequate vitamin A is a must in those concerned about vision support.

Vitamin A is also extremely helpful for the immune system. Not only does vitamin A act as a potent anti-viral compound, but it is crucial in maintaining the epithelial barrier. In cases of vitamin A deficiency, diminished activity of neutrophils, macrophages and natural killer cells are observed. Supplementation with vitamin A has shown significant reductions in morbidity and mortality in cases of measles, malaria and other infections.

Finally, vitamin A has great application for skin health as it helps with eczema, psoriasis and acne vulgaris. Vitamin A has been used topically and orally for various dermatological conditions, capable of improving wound healing and reducing fine lines and wrinkles associated with UV exposure and ageing.

Cyto-A liquid offers 10,000IU of the stable and active all-trans-retinyl-palmitate per liquid drop. This active Vitamin A is provided unflavoured in a medium chain triglyceride base with 450 drops per bottle.
